Decorating for Christmas - Scandi Style!

A Very Scandi Christmas: How to Decorate Scandinavian Style!🎄

Think twinkling candles, cosy corners, cheeky little Santas and a touch of Christmas magic!

Here at Nordic Fusion Christmas is our favourite time of year. The smell of gingerbread, candles glowing, the excitement of decorating the tree and, of course, little tomtar (Santas) popping up all over the place!

The secret to a Scandinavian Christmas? Keep it simple, make it cosy and fill your home with things that make you smile.

Here's how to bring a little julmys (Swedish for Christmas cosiness) into your home this festive season.

1. Set the Table, Scandi Style

In the Nordics, Christmas is all about gathering around the table. And we do love a beautifully dressed one!

Start with gorgeous Ekelund Christmas table linens, add fresh greenery, a few pinecones and plenty of candles. Traditional reds and greens always feel festive, but natural linen and soft neutrals are just as lovely.

And remember, a Scandi Christmas table should feel welcoming, not too perfect. There's always room for another plate of gingerbread!

2. Let There Be Candlelight!

If there's one thing Scandinavians know, it's how to make a home feel cosy with candles. The centre of Christmas decorating in the Nordics is the brass Angel Chime (Änglaspel). Four small candles rotate the angels which chime the bells. A classical favourite.

From the dining table to the windowsill, candlelight is everywhere at Christmas. Add the beautiful scents of the Nordic forest with Skandinavisk Christmas candles, including the festive JUL fragrance.

Their gorgeous scented candle gift packs also make lovely presents. Because who wouldn't want a little Scandinavian Christmas magic wrapped up in a box?

3. Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree!

Decorating the Christmas tree is a treasured tradition. And for us, the more personal and special the ornaments, the better!

Mix traditional decorations with playful Maileg ornaments and charming handmade felt decorations from Gry & Sif.

Think little rocking horses, candy canes, felt hearts, whimsical animals and decorations that tell a story. Add warm fairy lights and you've got a tree full of character and Christmas cheer.

4. Every Home Needs a Tomte!

Now, it wouldn't be a Christmas without a tomte or two!

These mischievous little Christmas characters are a much-loved part of Scandinavian folklore, and they have a special place in our homes.

I adore the charming woolly Santas from Åsas Tomtebod, with their fluffy beards and cosy hats. Pair them with the playful Christmas decorations from Nääsgränsgården for a little extra festive fun.

Pop them on a bookshelf, by the TV, windowsill or amongst your Christmas table decorations. Just don't be surprised if a few more find their way into your collection each year!

5. Make It Your Own

The best thing about a Scandinavian Christmas is that it isn't about decorating every corner or following the latest trends.

It's about creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, candlelight and little traditions that come back year after year.

So light the candles, put on some Christmas music, pour yourself a glass of glögg (Swedish mulled wine) and enjoy the magic.

God Jul! Merry Christmas from all of us at Nordic Fusion! ❤️
