Spring in the Nordics

Spring in the Nordics

How Scandinavians Welcome Spring

After a long, dark winter, Scandinavians don't just notice spring - they throw the doors open and celebrate it!

Every extra ray of sunlight is a reason to move outdoors and gather the people you love around a table. It's less about the calendar flipping over and more about a feeling: lightness.

Here's how the Nordics do spring - and a few ways to bring that feeling home. Check out our latest Shop the Look - Scandinavian Spring Style

Β

1. Take the cosiness outside

Hygge doesn't retire once the weather warms up - it just moves outdoors. A Scandinavian spring evening usually involves a gathering outside on the deck, a few blankets thrown over shoulders and a scattering of tealights glowing away long after dinner's finished. It's cosy and fresh at the same time.Β

Try it: Layer a wool blanket or throw over your outdoor chairs and dot the table with candles and candleholders - or a cluster of LED candles is a fuss-free way to get that flicker without worrying about the breeze.

2. Bring the outside in - literally

As soon as the first blooms appear, Scandinavian homes fill with them. Not elaborate arrangements - usually just a handful of stems from the garden or the market, dropped into a simple vase and placed somewhere you'll actually see them: the kitchen bench, the hallway console, right next to where you have your morning coffee.Β There is always the addition of floral table linens and teatowels which also bring Spring into the home.

Try it:Β Our selection of forever flowers mean the blooms stay in top shape for the long run. A good vase also does a lot - we have plenty!Β

3. Bake something that makes the whole house smell like spring

Cardamom buns, cinnamon knots, a simple rye loaf - Scandinavian baking is unhurried and made for sharing. Spring is when the oven starts working overtime again, not for warmth this time, but because baking together and Fika (eating warm buns outside with coffee) is basically a national pastime.

Try it: Stock up from our Nordic Baking range for the real-deal pantry staples, then serve it all up with coffee or tea in pretty Scandi mugs on something that looks the part.

4. Pour something tasty

Elderflower is spring in a glass, as far as Scandinavia is concerned - light, fragrant, and made for long afternoons that stretch into evening. Whether it's a homemade cordial or a bottle from the shelf, it's the drink that shows up at every spring gathering, picnic, and lazy Sunday lunch.

Try it: Browse our Scandi drinks selection for elderflower and other Nordic favourites to keep chilled and ready for whenever the sun makes an appearance.

The takeaway

Scandinavian spring isn't about a big styling overhaul. It's blankets that migrate outdoors, flowers picked up without a special occasion, buns baked because it's Sunday, and a glass of something floral in hand. Small, unfussy rituals - repeated often.
